Beer and wine drinkers understand the passion for a delicious libation, bears do too!

This is a happy-go-lucky bear that forced his way into a bear box, pulled out a bottle of wine, and is enjoying it.

While not exactly encountering him in the wild, Terrence and his wife had to be prepared for one like him.  While camping at Yosemite National Park in 2012, one of the major concerns was keeping the bears out of their stuff, which included some wine.  Bears have very keen noses, rivaled by their curiosity and strength, and are apt to dig into your food, cosmetics, candy, or anything else that smells interesting.  And they will also rip the doors off of cars in pursuit of the source of that olfactory sensation.

Hence the invention of the "bear box".  Basically a strong metal box with a latch that only a human could open, campers have to place their smelly goodies in these boxes while not in direct possession of them.  The frequent trips to the bear box to retrieve and store their things became a pain and a source of amusement for them, and so the inspiration for the sculpture.
